Many of the young people who come through our doors haven’t had a straightforward relationship with education.
Some have felt overlooked.
Some have struggled to find their place.
Some have experienced environments where they didn’t feel understood, connected or able to succeed.
That’s why creating opportunities for students to have a genuine voice isn’t an “extra” at Youth Futures. It’s part of creating an environment where young people feel respected, valued and empowered.
Because when young people know their voices matter, they’re more likely to engage, participate and take ownership of their learning.
Student voice isn’t about ticking a box
Student Councils have existed in schools for decades.
But for us, this isn’t simply about electing representatives or holding meetings.
It’s about creating meaningful opportunities for students to influence the community they’re part of.
Our Student Council has been designed to:
- represent the voices of students across our school community
- raise ideas, concerns and opportunities for improvement
- collaborate with school leadership
- lead initiatives that support student wellbeing and engagement
- help create an inclusive, respectful and welcoming school culture.
Because the people experiencing school every day often have the best ideas about how to make it even better.
