The people behind Midland

Our Midland team brings together experienced educators and wellbeing staff who lead with empathy and show up every day for our students.

Learning built around you

At Midland, every student has an Individualised Education Plan tailored to their strengths, interests, and goals.

We combine academic learning with personal development, life skills, and vocational pathways,  so students leave with more than just a qualification.

  • Small class sizes

More one-on-one time with educators and youth workers means every student gets the support they need, when they need it.
  • Flexible, self-paced learning

Senior students work toward qualifications at their own pace. Middle School students follow a modified WA curriculum.
  • Wellbeing support

Our onsite Youth Workers, Social Worker, and Psychologist are here to support students through whatever life throws at them.
  • Vocational pathways

Through our FutureReady program, Year 11 & 12 students can earn industry-recognised qualifications and build practical skills alongside their studies

In Their Own Words

Real stories. Real impact. Here’s what students and staff at Youth Futures Community School have to say about learning, belonging, and what it means to be truly supported.

  • “Since coming here I’ve grown, because it’s flexible learning. I can grow on my own terms, they don’t pressure you.”
A., Year 9 Student, YFCS Midland
  • “We focus on helping students feel safe, seen, and supported. The relationship comes first. Once they trust you, everything else falls into place.”
    Paul Jones, Principal.
  • “We’re providing a safe environment where young people who have previously been disengaged and not felt seen, heard, or supported are welcomed.”
Kerry-Ann Wright-Scott, Head of Midland Community School
  • “The classes are much smaller and the staff are really nice, you can talk to the Youth Workers about anything…and they feed you amazing food!”
K., Year 9 Student, YFCS Midland
  • “The education in this school is great, I get ongoing support and because there are less students in each class, there’s more focus, and it’s self-paced.”
C., Year 12 Student, YFCS Midland
  • “The teachers actually care. The classrooms are smaller. If we need help, our teacher will literally sit with us until we get it. Respect goes both ways here.”
M., Year 9 Student, YFCS Midland
  • “The staff here understand what’s going on, and the kids are just nicer.”
C., Year 12 Student, YFCS Midland
  • “A lot of our young people come to us feeling a sense of shame and failure because of their experiences in mainstream schooling. We say: come to us. We’re going to offer you a totally different experience — one that fits you.”
Linda Resnick, Head of Teaching and Learning

Middle School Program — Years 8 and 9

Our Midland campus also offers a dedicated Middle School program for students in Years 8 and 9. Based on a modified Western Australian curriculum, the program develops literacy and numeracy skills through engaging, real-world learning, embedding core subjects including Science, HASS, and Health into project-based activities that connect to everyday life.

It’s education that feels relevant, accessible, and built around the needs of younger students who are ready to re-engage with learning in a supportive environment.

Certificates offered — Years 10-12

At Youth Futures Community School Midland, students work toward nationally recognised qualifications at their own pace. All training is delivered in parternship with Futures Education and Training (RTO ID: 52833).
  • Focuses on developing learning goals and foundational literacy and numeracy skills for familiar, everyday situations. A great starting point for students re-engaging with education.

  • Builds literacy skills for familiar and less familiar contexts, alongside numeracy skills for practical application. Ideal for students ready to develop their learning beyond the introductory level.

  • Extends literacy and numeracy skills into more complex and less familiar situations, including oral and written communication. A strong foundation for further study or training.

  • Develops advanced literacy and numeracy skills including analysis and synthesis in specialised contexts. Our most advanced general education qualification.

  • Develops the practical skills needed for entry-level business services roles, including self-management, technology, and operational tasks. Designed for students preparing to enter the workforce.

  • Alongside their Certificate studies, Year 11 and 12 students can access a range of industry-relevant short courses and training opportunities through our FutureReady program. Please note that not all FutureReady training leads to a nationally recognised qualification. Speak to our team for more information about specific courses and outcomes.
